The two cards essentially tied at 1080p before the RX 7700 XT took a 5% performance lead at 1440p, which grew to 19% at 4K.
In F1 22 without FSR or DLSS enabled, the RX 7700 XT edged out the RTX 4060 Ti by slim margins at all three test resolutions. Realistically, we have no question which of these cards is the better option, which leaves the RX 7700 XT harder to recommend at its current price, even though it is still a well-rated product. (The XFX version reviewed here is even closer to that mark with an MSRP of $459.) As we mentioned, both of these cards utilize the Navi 32 GPU die, but the RX 7800 XT has 25% more memory, 25% more L2 cache, and roughly 25% more bandwidth with a smattering of additional cores as well. One of the most unusual aspects of the Radeon RX 7700 XT is its $449 price, as it sets the card on a head-on collision course with AMD's own Radeon RX 7800 XT released alongside it, which retails for $499.

Our test system for graphics cards is built on an Asus ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboard with a stock-clocked Intel Core i9-12900K processor actively cooled by a Corsair Hydro Series H100X water cooler.
Testing the Radeon RX 7700 XT: Our Bench Setup The card’s board power is listed as just 245 watts, and these two PCIe connections should provide at least 300 watts together, giving ample surplus power for overclocking.
It uses the near-universal rear I/O panel configuration of one HDMI port and three DisplayPort jacks, and it has two PCI Express (PCIe) eight-pin power connections on the card. Otherwise the RX 7700 XT created by XFX has a fairly typical feature loadout. The card feels solid throughout, and the enclosure and PCB don’t have any noticeable flex that we sometimes see with more budget-friendly thermal solutions, giving the XFX Speedster a high-end feel. XFX’s version of the RX 7700 XT doesn’t have a lot of extra flair, with a relatively simple, almost all-black exterior. This card should show what the RX 7700 XT is capable of, as it's equipped with an exceptionally long, 13.2-inch triple-fan thermal solution that was almost too long for our graphics-card test bed. As mentioned, AMD did not create a reference version of the Radeon RX 7700 XT: We instead received an XFX Speedster Qick 319 AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT Black Edition graphics card to represent the platform. Card Design: Touring the XFX Speedster Qick 319 AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT Black Editionīefore diving into that, we should first take a quick look at the card we tested for this review. This is also somewhat made up for by higher clock speeds on the RX 7700 XT, and as such most of the performance difference between the RX 7700 XT and RX 7800 XT in tests will be due to changes in the memory subsystem. The dropped MCD is by far the most-felt reduction, as it effectively drops the memory bandwidth by 25% while the total computational resources are reduced by a much less significant 10%.
Though all of these resources are present on the Radeon RX 7700 XT, you'll find fewer of each here than on the RX 7800 XT.Įven with these changes, the Radeon RX 7700 XT remains pretty similar to the RX 7800 XT, which also uses the Navi 32 die but without any resources disabled. This is a chiplet design that includes a Graphics Chip Die (GCD) with four smaller Memory Cache Dies (MCDs) set around it. The Radeon RX 7700 XT is based on AMD’s Navi 32 GPU die but with some of the resources disabled. But the RX 7700 XT is no slouch in its own right, and sees AMD saving its best-value RX 7000-series cards for later in the family's life. Still, its big sibling steals its thunder: The $499 AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT does so much more for just $50 more, and holds a firm grip on an Editors' Choice award for 1440p play. Though the $449 MSRP on the RX 7700 XT is undercut by the $399 GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, it more than makes up for this extra cost in performance. AMD isn't hawking an AMD-branded reference version of this graphics card, but we put an XFX iteration of this GPU, the Speedster Qick 319 RX 7700 XT Black Edition that retails for $459, through its paces to see how the RX 7700 XT stacks up. AMD’s Radeon RX 7700 XT fills out the GPU underdog's RX 7000 series line of battle, built to spar against the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti.
